There are a few days left to the PSLE English Oral Examinations on the 18th and 19th of August 2016.

Is your child prepared to ace the English Oral Examination?

Unfortunately, most schools place little emphasis on the oral examinations because it is a relatively small component of the English subject but 15% can make a difference of up to 2 grades. It can take you from a fail to a pass and an A to an A-Star.

Under the coaching and guidance of teacher Mrs Grace Ng, many students, even the shy ones, have become confident and proficient readers and communicators. Students who lacked the techniques have successfully used our techniques and methods to overcome their weaknesses and significantly improve their results in the examinations.

What Can This Course Do For Your Child?

Your child will

This Crash Course has 4 components

Session 1: Workshop (3 Hours)

Your child will learn the various techniques and methods to improve his/her Reading skills and Communication skills. Beginning from last year, the new exam format implemented by MOE will test students’ ability to interact and communicate with the examiners and this is the section which most students are still largely unprepared for, and feeling anxious about. Your child will learn how to quickly prepare, organise and present coherent responses to the examiners, even for topics which he/she may not be very familiar with.

The PSLE EL Oral Crash Course will cover:

[A] Reading Aloud

  • How to read more confidently and fluently with the Chunking of Sentences
  • Beginnings & Endings Sounds often missed or mispronounced by the majority of students
  • How to create appropriate expressions and moods

[B] Stimulus-Based Conversation

How to create mature, sensible points to handle ANY topic in this segment of the Exam with the following Critical Thinking Skills, Strategies and Tools

  • 5 Wives, 1 Husband and an Ah Soh
  • Iceberg Points – The Superficial and Those Beneath the Surface
  • Remove Those Shoes – Get into Their Worlds!
  • PMI

Session 2: 1-to-1 Mock Examination

It is a fact that most people do not have enough experience taking examinations. Sitting for even just one more Mock Examination with a Qualified Examiner will help your child gain more experience and build up his/her confidence. More importantly, the aim of the Mock Examination is to expose your child’s weaknesses before the actual PSLE so that he/she will have a chance to work on those areas and avoid making the same mistakes during the actual PSLE Oral Examination.

Programme for the Mock Exam

  • Students come in for a 1-to-1 English Oral Mock Exam with the Examiner at a time slot of your choice.
  • Students sit for both sections of the English Oral Examination:
    • Reading Aloud (10 marks)
    • Stimulus-Based Conversation (20 marks)
  • A detailed Post-Mock Exam Assessment and Remedies session will follow, its details as laid out below.

Session 3: Post-Mock Examination Assessment and Remedies

After the Mock Examination, we will highlight the areas of weaknesses that your child will need to work on and how to improve on those areas during the actual PSLE Oral Examination. As the Debrief will be held in a group setting, your child will also learn from the mistakes made by others during their Mock Examinations. Mistakes made by others are not other people’s problems. They are mistakes we had not have the chance to make yet, and therefore can learn from, and prevent.  As a group, we will be able to overcome more areas of weaknesses collectively. Don’t worry. While we address the areas of weaknesses collectively, we will do it such that the others do not know who made those mistakes.

A final Teaching Session on the Stimulus-Based Conversation follows, to help students with:

  • Worked Examples on Various Possible Topics
  • To come up with sensible points for the Stimulus-Based Conversation Section of the EL Oral Exam
  • Using the the Critical Thinking Skills, Strategies and Tools that were
  • Taught to the students in the Workshop earlier
  • All coherently organised in an easy-to-remember format that students can make their replies based on.

Materials: Home Study Kit – Online version & 128 GB USB Thumb Drive

In addition to the lessons, you will also receive a 128GB USB thumb drive in a design of your choice with

  • Audio recordings of Past Year PSLE Passages modelled by the Trainer
  • Audio Teaching on
    • Words or groups of words that are commonly mispronounced by students in these passages, and the correct
    • Beginnings and Endings sounds of words that are usually left out by local students, and how to produce them
    • Words to emphasise on and how to do so
    • Appropriate and feasible positions to pause, for fluency as well as for expressiveness

You will also be given access to the same materials online.

This programme will cost $280 per participant for the entire Crash Course, including

Trainer Profile

Mrs Grace Ng is an ex-MOE teacher who specialises in the teaching of English Oral at O Levels and PSLE, and served as the Chief Presiding Examiner at the GCE O Level English Oral Examinations. She has been preparing graduating cohorts for the English Oral Exam, and training student emcees for school events. With So Clever’s PSLE Oral English Mastery Course and Crash Course Workshops, Mrs Ng will impart her knowledge, skills and passion to your children to help them succeed in the Oral Exam with her loving and nurturing approach.
